Peters Pond Grove Association (PPGA)

There has been a lake association at Peters Pond since at least the 1950s...though it has not always been active. After being dormant for a good number of years, PPGA was incorporated on May 26, 1998, to address a number of problems that had developed at the lake, including weeds. Peak activities occurred from 1997 to 2007, followed by another lull. Interest picked up in 2021, with weed control again a top concern.

In case you are wondering - what is a Peters Pond "Grove"? That terminology originated in the 1940s, when plans were first drafted to develop a lakeside community on the southeastern and southwest sides of the pond. The development - consisting of a large number of 1000 square foot lots - were advertised as "Peters Pond Grove", and all lot owners in "the Grove" were deeded rights to use (in perpetuity) the two community beaches that were carved into the plan. The name stuck. And the community beaches are still here - dubbed the "west" and "east" beaches.

All residents in "the Grove" and all residents with waterfront properties are eligible and encouraged to join PPGA . Dues are currently set at $100/year.

WHAT DOES PPGA DO?

PPGA exists to take care of Peters Pond. It's an incredible asset to all who live on and around it, and worth safeguarding and enhancing.

Here are some of the specific items PPGA has and is doing in this regard:

  • Testing the water during the summer months to ensure that it is safe to swim in (NOTE: No one else is doing this testing - not the town, not the state)

  • Maintaining the community beaches

  • Addressing water level issues with respect to the beaver dams

  • Funding and overseeing periodic weed management and control programs

  • Interfacing with the town on matters of interest (e.g., parking issues; installation of sewer lines)

  • Providing advice and assistance to members and neighbors on pond-related matters and activities

  • Organizing and holding blockparties, ice fishing derbies, and fundraisers

PPGA is an all-volunteer outfit. 100% of dues and donations goes toward the pond. We hope you will consider joining or making a donation to allow us to continue to do this work.
